Mock Draft: Buffalo Bills

3. Buffalo Bills: Cam Newton, QB Auburn

After coming off a 4-12 season the Bills look to the draft for some offensive help.  The Bills offense was ranked at the bottom of the pack in all major categories ( PPG Ranked 28th, Total Yards 25th, Pass Yards Per Game 24th, and Rush Yard Per Game 18th.)  The team went after speedster running back C.J. Spiller in the 2010 Draft.  Even though Bills GM Buddy Nix and head coach Chan Gailey believe Ryan Fitzpatrick has potential, look for the Bills to pick up Auburn's Heisman Trophy QB Cam Newton.  Newton won't have to be the immediate starter when the 2011 season kicks off, but he will be looked at to be the long-term answer.  Newton is compared to Steeler's QB Ben Roethlisberger, but scouts are worried about his accuracy after throwing at the NFL Combine (11 for 21 passing), which definitely hurts his stock.

Other Option: Von Miller OLB Texas A&M

  1. Understandably, the Bills did just host some of the top quarterbacks in this years draft, so I can see the method behind this madness. However, why would they pick a quarterback unless they are looking for a solid backup to Ryan Fitzpatrick? Fitz did a decent job last year with a team that is clearly in the middle of rebuilding. I think the Von Miller option is a much better pick personally and would be disappointed to see Cam Newton come off the board this early.
Granted, the guy has tons of upside because he's so athletic but at the same time he's a total d-bag! Character issues I think win out here and keep him on the board a bit longer.
