Hope.

With spring ball in full swing its the time for Michiganders to start directing their attention towards the boys in Ann Arbor. While this program and fan base have been through seemingly the lowest of lows during the Rodriguez era, Dave Brandon is attempting to reinstall the normalcy that came along with the Carr era. Hard hitting defense and fundamentals are again the top priority in Schembechler Hall. However, questions still loom over how this team will actually look come this fall in front of 110,000 in the hole that Yost dug.

...and they'll never catch him...

The question on every Michigan fans mind is how big of an immediate effect will Greg Mattison have on this defense? I'm not expecting the guy to turn water into wine, yet anything but a reasonably drastic improvement is essentially unacceptable. Almost every player returns from last season and there was no shortage of athleticism on that squad; just a shortage of tackling and effective schemes. There is absolutely no way this defensive guru should not be able to turn the Wolverines into at least a middle of the road defense in the B1G. That being said, with this team's offensive firepower, a middle of the road Big Ten defense should be enough to get this team into the double digit win region, assuming Al Borges can properly manage his arsenal of weapons on offense.

We're still many nights of anticipation away from the kickoff to college football in A-squared but for some of us it's never too early to fantasize about another dream season culminating in Pasadena. Michigan is carrying a faction full of disillusioned fans and alumni. The last three (or four) seasons could not have really happened could they? Remember though that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. We're not too far away...

  1. Good article T-rex, but its important that we keep our expectation at a reasonable level lest we suffer another heartbreak. We're in the unfortunately great position of going nowhere but up, and we don't need to spoil another season with expectations of "double digit wins". Umich fans need to keep this season in perspective and give this team a backing through the growing pains. One thing we never gave Rich Rod (whether he deserved it or not.)
