Believe the Hype: Kemba Walker

Born May 8th, 1990 as Kemba Hudley Walker. Walker Grew up in the Bronx and after a brief stint in Herbert H. Lehman High School he attended Rice High School. Walker was a McDonalds All-American at Rice, but even that was not the highlight of his high school career. Walker faced off with star guard Derrick Rose his junior year and Walker beat Rose under the bright lights at Madison Square Garden.

Kemba Walker has improved every year at UConn, going from 8.9 ppg as a freshmen, 14.6 ppg as a sophomore, and 23.7 as a Junior. Walkers coach and mentor Jim Calhoun has told reporters that Kemba Walker is the best player that he has ever coached, putting him ahead of names like Ray Allen, Rip Hamilton, Caron Butler, Ben Gordon, Charlie "V," Rudy Gay, and many others. All have had great college careers and most have been successful as NBA players as well. For Kemba's name to even be mentioned in the same breath as those players is already an honor.

Tonight Walker has a chance to join an elite class with Kareem Abdul-Jabar, Magic Johnson, Danny Manning and Carmelo Anthony, all have put their teams on their back and won a national championship. Walker is undefeated in Tournament play this year. UConn won the Maui Invitational, Big East Tournament and now have a chance to win the biggest one of all.
Believe the hype? Yes I do. In my opinion and many others will agree, Kemba Walker may be considered one of the best tournament players of all time.
